Summary
The book starts off at the end of the day when Mr. Jones the overseer of the farm goes to bed drunk and did not secure there farm building properly. Then all the animals came out to listen to Old Major, a boar he is old he knows more then the other animals so he gives them his opinion on life and humans. He says that the animals are slaves to humans. Old Major dreams about a place where animals are treated with dignity and not controlled by men. The animals don't want anything to do with humans and they don't want to adopt some of their habits such as living in a house and wearing clothes. The animals feel like the humans taken advantage of them from their straight to what they can produce. Humans are weak and they are the enemy. The animals have a point. A few nights latter major died in his sleep the animals on the farm started to think about what Major told them and they had a whole new outlook on their lives and the way they were being treated. Several nights a week the animals would meet to talk about their rebellion , but animals were talking about the good thing they have for example how feed them and take care of them if they rebelled. The animals also came up with seven commandments that they have to live by, which I thought was kind of funny because the animals are trying so hard not to be humans and yet their ideas are similar to our ideas, we also have commandments that were try to like by. The animals have more in common with us then they think.
Quotation
" The life of an animal is misery and slavery: that is the plain truth"( Orwell 18).
Reaction
After reading the first few pages of the book I'm siding with the animals. I never thought their lives were so hard. I agree with them and i think humans should appreciate them a lot more. I think Old Major makes a good point humans are weak compered to animals. my whole view on animals changed just from these few pages.
